The Whimsical, Wonderful World of Irene Neuwirth
In celebration of her holiday residency in Moda Madison Dec 4 - Jan 10, the irreverent jewelry designer invites us inside her Los Angeles studio.
Full disclosure: We’re extremely fond of Irene Neuwirth. The last time we interviewed the vibrant L.A. jeweler was at the Mercer Hotel in Manhattan just over a year ago. She was in town visiting a new godchild, and agreed to squeeze in some time. Sipping on decadently frothy cappuccinos, we talked about everything from Oscars buzz to her almost unhealthy obsession with Bruce Springsteen.
Whether by accessorizing A-list actresses in ruby tiaras (google “Ruth Negga”) or crafting a “casual” pair of diamond and turquoise hoops, Neuwirth manages to present undeniably precious stones without any of the pomp and circumstance—just don’t call her a bohemian. “I hate that word,” she declares, her signature deadpan humor in full bloom. The jeweler, along with her pieces, is famously playful. “Everyone knows I don’t take myself too seriously,” she says.
