For his Spring ’25 collection, the South Carolina native wanted to make a statement: “As an African American, I feel like we are put in a box, where we can only design a certain thing. I’m not expected to do American sportswear,” he says. “I wanted to say yes, we can do this, we can make classics that women want to wear on a daily basis. And so I dug my feet in.” The results: fabulously retro suiting, polished day dresses in easter-egg hues, and gorgeous sequin slips.
When looking for inspiration, he turns to gospel and jazz: “There’s an album by Anita Baker called Compositions that I listen to whenever I am stressed or need a moment—I listen to the entire album and every time, by the end of it, I’m in a better place.”
