5 New TRENDS
For 2022
As the saying goes: new year, new you. And this year? We’re finding inspiration
outside our comfort zone. So embrace your inner creativity and welcome 2022
with an open mind—here are five fresh trends to get you going.
1. Bold COLOR-BLOCKING
Heralded by Daniel Lee’s Bottega Veneta, Jacquemus, and Victoria Beckham is a new audacious take on color. Elevated to luxurious heights, acidic highlighter hues and sweltering shades of pink and blue leave the symphony of neutrals that once held the industry captive feeling comparatively flat.
But don’t let the overall jubilance fool you: there’s a fine art to pairing contrasting hues and capturing the right kind of clash. “It’s all about commitment,” says Moda’s Colin Welch, the stylist behind this shoot. “Don’t shy away from a mix of saturated jewel tones: fuchsia and violet accented by a pop of teal. Playing any of these pieces down with a neutral would immediately lose their impact. Add different textures for extra interest: à la a slinky sequin skirt paired back to an oversized piece of knitwear. It’s equal parts bold and surprising.”

2. The
Baseball CAP
Perhaps it’s the sporty hat’s ties to Lady Diana or perhaps it’s its history of shielding celebrities from paparazzi—whatever the reason, there’s something about wearing one that instantly exudes a sense of importance. These days, it’s the accessory of choice for off-duty A-listers—from EmRata to Rihanna—all of whom seem to agree that the more inconspicuous the style, the better. Like a subtle dash of normcore, such iterations lend a spirit of pragmatism to any look. For those brave enough to pair a cap with something other than sweats (and we suggest you do), consider elevating further with a layered silk scarf knotted under the chin—Queen Elizabeth style. Knowledge of sports not required.
