Leather Rugby Ball 1920
Our vintage rugby ball signed John Woodbridge is made of 6 leather panels. Inspired by balloons from the 1920s and 1930s, it is sewn by hand in accordance with traditional techniques and in carefully selected leather.
Rugby was an Olympic sport at the Paris Olympics in 1924. In Colombes, the tournament is played without British or Southern Hemisphere teams and brings together only 3 nations: France, the United States and Romania. René Crabos, the one nicknamed at the time the "genius of rugby" or "Napoleon" for his qualities as a leader and tactician, is the captain of the XV de France who finds the Americans in the final. This match will make history, not for the quality of the game played but for the violence that enamelled it. More powerful and better prepared, the Californian academics won 17-3 after a contested match in a hostile atmosphere that turned into a fight on several occasions and which removed rugby from the Games program.
